Reminders:

Please make sure students come to school with appropriate winter gear.  We do go outside if is is above zero so they need to have hats, gloves, boots, snow pants, etc...

Also reminder students to bring another pair of shoes along to wear inside so they don't have to wear their heavy boots or borrow shoes for PE.

Holiday Show

Good morning!

Thank you so much for coming out yesterday for one or both of the shows!  The kids did a great job and were so excited to see so many friendly faces in the crowd! I appreciate the support you give our classroom as well!

If anyone has photos you would be willing to sharing with me, I would much appreciate it.  Also, if anyone took a video of the AM and PM show, I would love to get those too.  I can share them out to everyone else too.

PBIS Reward

Good evening!

The kids have earned a PBIS class reward.  They are free to wear PJ's and bring something comfy to sit/lay on during the movie.  If they want to bring an extra snack they can but I will also be bringing popcorn and of course fresh fruit for fruity Friday.

REMINDER: Remind the kids they should be prepared to go outside for recess and walk up to the church for the organ concert in the morning so their comfy clothes should be appropriate to both outside and inside activities.

It was great seeing everyone this week for conferences!  We are off to a great start this year and there are many great things to come!  Thank you for all your support!

Hello!  Please read over the information about our upcoming field trip and WE Walk. If  you are planning on attending the field trip, please email me. Bus space is very limited, but you are also welcome to drive on your own and meet us at Wickiup Hill. 

Lastly, thank you for responding back to me about conference scheduling. I think conference slips will be coming home this Friday. These will include the date and time of your conference.

Welcome to Third Grade!!

Our year has gotten off to a great start!  We have been so busy.  I'm having a great time getting to know the students.  The kids are great! Here is a little information to get the year started.

Back to school classroom information

School Day: 8:15-3:15!  Students may enter the building at 8:10.

Parent Communication-Blog

·        I wlll communicate mainly through this blog and emails. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or are wondering why something is happening, please feel free to call or email me anytime during the school year. My email address is: gbecthold@mountvernon.k12.ia.us

Homework

• On Fridays, you will receive the spelling list for the following week (pretest). It will be on the back of the weekly spelling test given on Friday morning.  There will also be a double-sided sheet sent home with suggestions for spelling practice.  The other side will share skills, stories and lessons we will complete the following week. This gives you an idea of what we will work on the next week.

• From time to time there might be math homework as well, depending on the skill we are learning.  This would be sent with the purpose of practicing a skill will are currently working.

After School Plans

·       If your child’s usual end of the day plan happens to be different on a particular day, please send a note or call the elementary office. (i.e. riding the bus home with a friend).

Snack (optional)        

• Third graders will eat lunch from 12:40-1:00 each day, this is a long time after most students have eaten breakfast. Students in our classroom will be allowed to bring an individual snack to be eaten in the morning. This snack is optional and will not be provided by the school. Please make sure if you child is bringing a snack that it is a light healthy choice. No chips or candy please.

Other Information

• P.B.I.S. is our “positive behavior” system being implemented building-wide. As the year begins, every student will know about expected behaviors in all common areas of the school.  Listen for comments from your child.  They may be recognized with a “ticket” as they show positive behaviors that will be celebrated!

This has been a wonderful year.  Thank you for sharing your kids with me.  They are a great group of kids!  They all worked so hard and grew so much!  Thank you for supporting your children and also for supporting me!  It is much appreciated.  I've been very lucky to have these students in my class this year.  They will be missed greatly!

Field Trip Information

As part of our Mount Vernon/Pioneer unit, we will be going on a field trip to Usher’s Ferry on Friday, May 20.  We will leave at 8:30 and return at 2:45.  Please send a cold lunch and drink with your child. 

Half of the day will be spent in the one room schoolhouse, where the students will be experiencing school as it was 110 years ago.  There will be another teacher in charge during that time who will be conducting lessons.

The other half of the day will be spent touring the village.  The students are all assigned a character from that time.  These are people who actually lived in Usher’s Ferry 110 years ago.  We are learning about each family and their history.  The students will be able to tour their own house and learn about life during that time period.  They will be on a guided tour of the business district as well as the town.

This is a fun day and students are encouraged to dress for the time period.  I have sent a couple of notes pertaining to dress and rules for the schoolhouse.

There will be beverages available for purchase (root beer or sarsaparilla) for $2/bottle. The general store will also be open where the students can purchase small items. They are priced anywhere between $1 and $5.  Buying items is optional, but if you would like your child to make any purchases, please send money. 

If you would like to make a donation to help cover the $8.25 admission cost, it would be much appreciated!
