Habitat Diorama Project

Important Events and Information:

Habitat Dioramas
Due Date: Wednesday, September 27th

Our class has been learning about animals during science.  We researched an animal of our choice. In class, we created a brochure about our animal. At home, we ask that your child create a habitat diorama. Our brochures and habitat dioramas will be on display during Open House.

Important Dates:
The habitat dioramas need to be completed at home and then brought to school on Wednesday, September 27. You can come and view these projects at Open House on Thursday, September 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. Projects will be sent home on Friday, September 29.

Suggestions:
Shoe boxes make great habitats, but feel free to use your imagination and be creative. Please help your child to remember to include items that are realistic to their animal’s habitat. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me. I really appreciate your help at home with this project!

Welcome back!

Hello! Classroom information came home last Friday. I will post that information below, in the event that you might need it and can't find your paper copy. Also, here are a few photos from our first few days. I've enjoyed getting to know your children, they are a great group of kids! We are going to have a wonderful year together!

Parent Communication/ Elementary News

·      Usually a classroom notes will be sent home on Fridays. I will also be posting information on the blog.

·      Each week Lori Arnold does a great job updating the Washington Elementary news website. Please check out the ES News page from time to time.

Spelling

·      New spelling lists will go home on Fridays. Students will take a pretest on Friday to determine their new list for the following week. Post-tests will be taken on Fridays as well. The pretest and post-tests are on the same sheet.

Homework

·      Students will have a bit of homework each week. Homework will come home on Friday, for the following week, and needs to be returned to school on Friday as well. Please check the homework folder often. There will most always be spelling homework for the week. Additionally, part of your child's homework is to read 15-20 minutes several nights a week, if possible. Occasionally there will be special assignments/projects.

Snack (optional)
·      Third graders eat lunch at 12:35 each day, this is a long time after most students have eaten breakfast. Students in our classroom will be allowed to bring a healthy snack (granola bar, piece of fruit, crackers, etc.) to be eaten in the morning. This snack is completely optional and will not be provided by the school.

Other Information

Current Events
·      Each week we will cover and discuss current events through Scholastic News (a mini “newspaper” for students to read and discuss together). You are welcome and encouraged to help your child find news items of interest to bring in to share with the class, if you’d like from time to time. We will use Newslea as a resource for current events.
